Endoparasites are any type of parasite that lives inside the horse. They usually cling to organs such as the heart, lung, gut and blodd vessels.

Symptoms

Treatment

Perform regular faecal egg counts FEC prior to treatments to target horses with higher shedding potential.

Provide twice-yearly anthelmintic treatments for ALL horses and focus on treatments at the time of year that is optimal for larval development, in Autumn or Spring.

Prevention

Regularly rotate pastures. Clean stalls regularly and compost manure. Grouping horses in pastures according to age will help minimize young horses’ exposure to the parasites.
